FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Short answers about how the app works and what it does with your information.
Secret Santa
Can the organizer see who drew whom?
No. Organizers see who has joined, who has seen their match, whose wishlist is ready and gift status, but never the pairings. Pairings are stored encrypted, so they can’t be read by looking in the database either. Being the organizer gives no extra view, even if you take part. The only exception is the logged Troubleshoot reveal of one match, described below.
What if a gift goes missing and the organizer needs to know who had that person?
An organizer can use Troubleshoot to reveal one person’s match. It takes two confirmations, typing that person’s name and giving a reason. Every reveal is logged (who revealed it, whose match, the reason and the time) and shown to all organizers of the event. There is no way to show all pairings at once.
How many people do I need?
At least 3 people have to join before names can be drawn.
Can I stop couples or housemates from drawing each other?
Yes. Group people by household, add specific pairs who shouldn’t draw each other, and avoid the pairings from a past event. If the rules leave no possible draw, the app tells you which rule is blocking it.
What happens if someone joins late or drops out after the draw?
A late joiner is fitted into the chain, and someone who leaves is taken out of it. Only the giver whose match changed is told about it.
Can I ask my recipient what they want without giving myself away?
Yes. Questions and answers are anonymous to the recipient: messages are labelled as from their Secret Santa, and notifications never name you.
Gift registries
Who can see who claimed a registry item?
The organizers. Other guests only see how many of each item are still available.
Do I need a link for every item?
No. You can add an item with just a name. We add search links at stores that ship to each guest, so every item has places to buy.
Can I share the registry without inviting everyone by email?
Yes. Create an open link that anyone can view. Guests sign in to claim an item. Replacing the link stops the old one from working.
Shopping and shipping
How do shipping estimates work?
Each store has typical processing and delivery times that we set for that store, in business days. We count them from today, adjust for your postal code region where we can, and compare the result with the event date: on time, tight (within 2 days of the event) or late. We also show the last day to order so it should arrive on time.
Are the delivery dates guaranteed?
No. They are estimates, not live data from the store. Real delivery depends on the store, the item and the carrier, so check with the store before you count on a date.
Where do prices come from?
From the store’s page when we can read it, shown with the date we checked. Amazon is the exception: we never show Amazon prices, so Amazon links say “See price on Amazon”. We never invent a price: if we can’t find one, it says the price is unknown.
Do you earn money from the shopping links?
Not right now: no shopping link in the app earns us anything. If that changes, we’ll say so here and next to the places to buy.
Account and privacy
Why does the app ask for my country and postal code?
Only to estimate delivery times and show stores that ship to you. We never ask for your street address or your device’s location, and the postal code is optional.
How much does it cost?
Nothing. The app is free to use.
Which languages are available?
English, French and Spanish. Each person chooses their own, and their emails come in that language.
Do I need to download an app?
No. It works in your browser on phones and computers. You can add it to your home screen if you like.
How do I delete my account?
In the app, open Settings and choose Delete account. You can also send a request from our account deletion page.
